Issues of digitization of archival work discussed at the National Archives

As part of the Republican Forum “Culture and Innovation” organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the occasion of the Day of Workers of Culture and Arts from May 19 to 21, 2026, a special session dedicated to the archival sector was held at the National Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the session, issues of digitization of archival work, preservation of cultural heritage, the importance of audiovisual documents, and the value of data in the era of artificial intelligence were discussed.
Among the speakers, Yerkin Zhanabekov, Head of the Department of Archival Technologies and Digitization of the National Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, made a report on the work on digitizing archives and ensuring effective access to information.
In addition, Deputy Director of the Central State Archive of Film, Photographic Documents and Sound Recordings Shynar Sarybayeva, Chief Curator of the Archive Yulia Volchkova, Director of the Central State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation Bayan Zhumataeva, Acting Head of the Department of Document Use and Information Madina Abdrazakh, and AI system architect Maksat Bekes made reports on their fields, focusing on modern technologies and digital transformation in archival work.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged experiences and discussed new opportunities and initiatives aimed at developing the archival industry.
