Training courses on digitization and restoration of archival documents have been completed in Kazakhstan

A training course for archival staff titled “Digitization and Restoration of Documents in the Archival Sector of Kazakhstan” has been completed at the National Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The course was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
During the training, participants gained both theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of archival document restoration, management, and digitization.
The practical component of the course began with document identification, followed by cleaning and ink analysis. Participants were introduced to the materials and tools used in cleaning, as well as methods for flattening documents and preparing them for restoration. Information was provided on the properties of adhesives and methods of their preparation. During restoration work, the level of document damage was assessed and appropriate restoration methods were selected. The practical application of restoration techniques, stages of restoring sewn documents, innovative methods for assembling fragmented pages, as well as restoration ethics and the tools and materials used, were all discussed in detail.
More than 60 archivists and restorers from the cities of Astana and Almaty took part in the practical course. The knowledge and experience gained through this training will undoubtedly contribute to the modernization and development of archival practices in Kazakhstan.
At the end of the event, participants were awarded certificates, and the organizers expressed their appreciation.
