Current Issues of Archival Digitalization Discussed in Astana

A plenary session entitled “Digital Archive. Paradigm Shift” was held in Astana as part of the III Archivists’ Congress Digital Archive EXPO, organized by the Presidential Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the event, leading experts from Kazakhstan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Poland, the United States, and the United Kingdom discussed the digital transformation of the archival sector, the implementation of artificial intelligence technologies, the role of archival data in the digital economy, and the future development of archives in the modern era.
Particular attention was given to the pace of archival digitization, the use of archival data for training artificial intelligence systems, the educational potential of digital archives, and issues related to information security.
The international event was attended by Saule Mushkenova, Acting Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Tursyngul Kussayinova, Deputy Director of the National Archives. They took part in professional discussions and exchanged experience on key issues related to archival development and digital transformation.
Participants emphasized that modern archives are evolving beyond their traditional role as custodians of historical heritage and are becoming important institutions within the digital society. They also noted that professional oversight of artificial intelligence technologies and the reliability of archival data remain fundamental principles of digital transformation in the archival field.
